The President of ISWA, Antonis Mavropoulos, presented the World Congress ISWA2019 to the authorities of Bilbao, Bizkaia and the Basque Country

The president of ISWA, Antonis Mavropoulos presented to the authorities of Bilbao, Bizkaia and the Basque Country the World Congress ISWA2019 to be held at the Palacio Euskalduna in Bilbao between 7 and 9 October. Mavropoulos presented the event to the Councillor of Services and Urbanism of the City Council of Bilbao, Asier Abaunza, and he had a meeting with Elena Unzueta, Foral Deputy of Sustainability and Natural Environment. Later, the president of ISWA was welcomed by Elena Moreno, Deputy Minister for the Environment and others representatives of the Basque Government in the IHOBE headquarters (Environmental Management Public Agency of the Basque Government).

Besides, and accompanied by Rafael Apraiz, executive director of ATEGRUS (Technical Association for Waste Management, Urban Cleanliness and Environment) and president of the Organizing Committee of the Congress, Antonis Mavropoulos visited the facilities of the new Complejo Medioambiental de Gipuzkoa (Environmental Complex) together with representatives of the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council.

Mavropoulos explained to his hosts the details of a Congress in which 1,500 experts from 80 countries from five continents will participate and that under the general title of ‘Circular Economy. What are you doing?’, will develop over three days six major themes: Sustainable Cities, Technology in waste management, Digital Innovation, Climate Change, Social Innovation, and Marine Litter, which will analyze the latest trends and technologies in waste management and environmental sustainability policies.
